AKSG OPENS UP ON THE EMPLOYMENT OF 3000 TEACHERS
Akwa Ibom State government has cleared the air on the criteria used for the recent employment of 3000 teachers into her public Secondary schools.
The government said, only the brightest and best candidates who could pass a simple examination on the Use of English based on the curriculum of Senior Secondary, SS 1 were employed.
With priority placed on the Education sector and the commitment to ensure that Akwa Ibom Public schools are repositioned to compete favourably with any other school within and outside the state, then only those who are fit must be employed to teach in the schools.
The government position was made known by the Commissioner of Information, Sir Charles Udoh in Uyo while on a Live 90.5FM AKBC Programme - Akwa Ibom calling.
This forms part of the 4th edition of "The diary", which captures major outings of the state Information Boss within the period under review.
The opening up on the teachers employment has put paid to the hue and cry from some quarters on the rationale behind the selection of 3000 out of the list of 5000 names hand-over by the past administration for employment into public Secondary schools.
"Governor Udom Emmanuel says, any teacher in Akwa Ibom public school should be able to teach his child, so the best hands fit to teach the Governor's child at that level were employed", Sir Udoh emphasized.
"The fact that, only 3000 people were able to pass a simple test from SS 1 English language curriculum shows that there was something fundamentally wrong with the employment procedure used for the 5000 teachers by the past administration", the Information Boss, reasoned.
He said, this much, necessitated the hosting of the first ever Education summit in the state to brainstorm on the way forward for the Education sector and in particular public schools in the state, disclosing that a committee is to be set-up to look into the implementation of the resolutions reached and communique issued at the end of the Summit.
The State Spokesman was also on a phone interview with Akwa Ibom Mandate, a Live Radio Programme on Planet 101.1FM, where Sir Udoh calmed the nerves of residents of Uyo metropolis on the IBB Way flooding menace.
He said, the menace will soon become history as a partnership has been struck between the State government, Federal government and the world bank for work to commence on the flooding site.
Already a pre-bid meeting on work on the IBB flooding has been held while an inspection team has undertaken a tour of the site and the adjoining areas.
Sir Udoh within the period represented His Excellency the Governor at the public book presentation and launch of "Dare it Do it", a publication of a Media Aide to the Governor on Social Media, Mr. Aniekeme Finbarr.
The Governor congratulated his Aide on the commendable feat which has boosted literary work in the society and urged youths to emulate the zeal and ingenuity of Mr. Finbarr.
The Commissioner of Information, Sir Charles Udoh had to address Government House reporters on EXCO resolutions within the period.
Accompanied by his Culture and Tourism counterpart Mr. Orman Esin, the Information Boss reeled out government's plans for 2019 yuletide and other important issues.
Camera lens also caught the State Information helsman, Sir Charles Udoh at the opening of the 10th edition of Utang Football competition at Government Primary School, Obio Offot, Uyo, where he attended as one of the Guests of honour.
