NIGERIA IN MENACE OF SECURITY THREATS

By Jossymike ASABA – Nigerians have witnessed seasons of massive fear and agony over security threats, especially through kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, arms proliferation, child theft, attacks by herdsmen and sea piracy over a lingering period of time. While this menace has consequently sent several innocent souls to early grave, today, thousands are battling with debilitating health and all forms of disabilities. However, in order to cushion this effect and bring sanity to the system, the governor of Delta State, in collaboration with his counterparts in the South-South region, endorsed the proposal by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for community policing as panacea for the persisting security challenges in the country. NIGERIAN BUSINESSES PUT UP FOR SALE BY CHEVRON

Again, Chevron put two Nigerian businesses up for sale United States-based energy corporation, Chevron has again put up for sale its stake in two Nigerian offshore oil and gas blocks, a sale document seen by Reuters News Agency showed, as the company seeks to dispose of aging assets to focus on its fast-growing production in the United States. The two businesses are shallow-water Oil Mining Lease (OML) 86 and OML 88. Chevron will be selling its 40 per cent stake in the businesses. The two businesses produce approximately 6,200 barrels of oil equivalent per day, according to the sale document. The sale is also part of a broader retreat by international oil companies from Nigerian oil and gas fields that have been plagued by pipeline theft as well as uncertainty over the West African country’s tax regime. He is CP Imohimi Oluwole Edgal. 7'   Container-laden truck crushes driver to death in Lagos Deji Lambo A truck driver, Ibrahim Shagari, has been crushed to death by a fellow truck driver, Obinna Nzekwe, on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos State. PUNCH Metro  gathered that the 47-year-old Nzekwe and 33-year-old Shagari were both driving their container-laden trucks with number plates AKD 180 XP and SMK 402 XS, respectively, when they ran into a gridlock on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway. The gridlock was said to have caused both drivers and others plying the route to spend weeks queuing on the road in a bid to get to their various destinations. It was learnt that Nzekwe was driving his truck ahead of Shagari, who was following closely behind. They had maintained the queue till they got to the MTN bus stop, where the tragedy that claimed Shagari’s life occurred. No border reopening, until Benin, others respect protocols – FG John Ameh, Abuja The Federal Government admitted on Wednesday that its temporary policy to close land borders was responsible for the current rising inflation in the country. But it still defended the closure, insisting that it would remain in place until the country’s neighbours learnt to respect trade protocols. The FG said it had to close borders because Nigeria could not continue to subsidise economies  of her neighbours. Nigeria had in August  closed its land borders  on the grounds  that  smuggling of goods from its neighbouring countries was hurting its economy. On November 4, the Federal Government listed five conditions for reopening the country’s land borders. As one of the conditions, the government said Nigeria would not accept imported goods that were repackaged by neigbouring countries and brought to Nigeria. Military clears 983 Boko Haram suspects in Borno By Tunji Omirin, Maiduguri  Nov 28, 2019 4:17 AM  The Nigerian Army yesterday freed 983 detainees suspected to be Boko Haram members but found to be innocent after investigations. Nigeria Lagos to register places of worship ‘to ensure sanity’ By  Agencies   -   November 27, 2019 The Lagos State Government says plans are on to register religious houses in order to ensure sanity in the state. The Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, made this known on Tuesday in Alausa, during a stakeholders meeting with the Nigeria Inter-religious Council. Akinbile-Yussuf said the registration, which was supposed to commence by mid 2020, would help to identify worship centres that are being used to perpetrate illegalities in the state.
