APPOINTMENT OF PERSONNEL TO THE OFFICE OF AKS SPEAKER

Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of certain personnel for the smooth running of his office as Speaker of the 7th Assembly.

Those appointed include Mr. Emmanuel Effiong (PRESS SECRETARY), Mr. Iwatt Charles Effiong (CHIEF OF STAFF), Mr. Darlington Udobong (SPECIAL ASSISTANT, MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS) and Mr. Desmond Edet Etim (HEAD OF PROTOCOL).

Mr. Emmanuel Effiong, a Veteran Journalist and Newspaper Publisher, is a native of Mbiakong in Uruan Local Government of Akwa Ibom State. He holds an HND in Mass Communications from the Polytechnic Calabar, Cross River State. He comes on board with a rich profile of media practice spanning over three decades.

Emmanuel Effiong pioneered the publication of the first all colored newspaper in the state in September 1999. He worked with the defunct Newswatch Magazine for 14 years, rising through the ranks as an Advertisement Executive to become the Special Projects Manager and subsequently the Advertisement Manager of the magazine.

He has been Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Ltd, a Public Relations Consultancy firm as well as Wood Concepts Ltd, an Integrated Media Services company. He was Chairman of Federated Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) for five years and is presently a State Executive member of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council.

Until his appointment, Mr. Emmanuel Effiong was Chief Executive Officer of Fountain Media Group, publishers of UPDATE NEWSPAPERS in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Mr. Iwatt Charles Effiong, an indigene of Uyo Village in Uyo Local Government Area is a graduate of Marketing from Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State. He is a Chartered Member, Certified Institute of Marketing of Nigeria. He has been Special Assistant, Administration to the Deputy Majority Whip’s Office in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly between 2003 -2007.
