Lagos APC faults Bode George over comments on Tinubu June 18, 2019 The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Monday cautioned a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, to desist from fabricating lies against its National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. George, had in an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH commended Kola Abiola, the son of the late Chief Moshood Abiola, for exposing Tinubu. Kola had alleged that after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, Tinubu approached the late military dictator, Sani Abacha, and begged to be appointed a commissioner in Lagos. But the Lagos APC, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Joe Igbokwe, said the PDP chieftain supported the “tissue of lies” because he lacked a sense of history. He said, “Before the annulment of June 12 1993 presidential election, governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives and members of the state Houses of Assembly had been in place, and to...

INEC: We Only Experimented With Server In 2018 •Insists it was not used for 2019 general election The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday insisted that the results of the 2019 general election were not transmitted electronically to its server, stressing that the commission only experimented with the technology during some staggered elections held in 2018. The commission said that the clarification was necessary because of rising controversy on the transmission of 2019 presidential election results from states to the INEC server. Speaking during the post-election retreat organised by the commission for its staff and ad hoc staff engaged for the last general elections in Osun State, INEC National Commissioner, Mr. Solomon Soyebi, explained that many factors forced the commission to drop the idea of electronic transmission of the results to a central server. Soyebi added that INEC experimented with electronic transmission of results during Anambra, Sokot...

News DSP Bala Elkana The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, has warned Nigerians to desist from buying stolen phones. According to him, “Under our laws, it is quite a serious offence for one to buy stolen phones. The law even regards the buyer to be more culpable than even the thief.  The punishment is more for the buyer than the thief. The wisdom behind that is to discourage people from stealing because if there is no market where they would sell those stolen things, they would not steal them but because they have a ready market, they easily steal. “This is why the law makes the punishment stiffer for the buyer.  The person who steals may get three years punishment, while the buyer could get seven years imprisonment and at the end, he will lose the property once we trace it to him. For a person to avoid buying stolen property, it is advisable that he buys things in the open market and not on the street or people who are just passing and not ...
